Happy Storyboard Animatic to Final Scene
The first 3rd of my Senior film "Happy" combines 2D and 3D Animation to create a dynamic and engaging introduction. I used both Harmony Toon Boom and Maya for this storyboard animatic.
I began the process by translating my thumbs and sketches I had drawn for the scene into a workable 3D environment for me to then animate over.
This first video shows the storyboard animatic that would serve as the bones of this portion of the production. Using both 3D and 2D elements, I was able to translate my vision for the animated one shot introduction to "Happy".
After using the storyboard as a guide, I made a working animatic of the chase scene. The 3D environment is made in Toon Boom itself using Mayas interpretation of the background as a guide. Using Toon Boom, I was able to give the background color and create a dynamic background for the scene.
I was also able to work out timing and make adjustments to better fit the scene and have it run as smooth as possible for the introduction.
This final video shows the result of the first half of my senior film at California College of the Arts (CCA). Combining everything I had done, I was able to successfully create an exciting, high energy introduction to my short student film "Happy".
The execution of using both 2D and 3D animation was something I loved working on and using to translate my vision onto a visual medium. Further exploration using both methods and forms of animation, along with others, is something I want to definitely explore in future and ongoing projects.
